Battalions are a 4 piece stoner/sludge/metal band, formed in the end of the road town that is Kingston-upon-Hull some 5 years ago. Since their inception, they have undergone several line-up changes, but never losing that snarling anger that first marked their sound. Now settled on a final line-up, which features:
Phil Wilkinson (Vocals)
Matt Walker (Drums)
Pete Cross (Bass)
Mark Wood (Guitar)
Since finalising the line-up, Battalions have gone from strength to strength, writing riff-filled nihilistic walls of sound. Locking themselves into the practice room to write a brand new set, they are honing in their sound to bring more powerful, head-banging riffs and pounding drums.
Recent live appearances have included support to Japans ‘Church of Misery’ in Manchester, including gigs in Edinburgh and Leeds. Currently looking towards a mini-tour in January 2015, with as many dates as possible to spread the filth in 2015.
‘Battalions are a new band on my radar, A four piece from Hull, UK. There is a tone of Corby sludgers Raging Speedhorn about them, massive riffs set against throat shredding vocals. Indeed during their 3rd song, a two vocal attack adds further credence to this reference. For the record, RS owns. There’s a southern flavour to their blend, Tennessee style and potent enough to corrode steel. The natural harmonics added to the riffs brings variety and yet their set is rich in groove. One’s to watch for sure.’ – The Sludgelord
